High fire explorations of turning raw materials into functional vessels.

The strongest influence on my approach to ceramics is Japanese mingei aesthetics and creation principles. I bring a quiet, humble introspection into the functional forms seen here, with subtle irregularities making each piece its own unique thing. These works are meant to be hand-held vessels that bring you close into a personal, intimate space for deep reflection.

I continue to experiment with angles, mark-making, and the balance between what and what not to glaze to define my voice.

All works are fired at Cone 10 in a reduction kiln at a community studio in rural Petaluma, CA, USA.

My approach to ceramics

“I want to appreciate that people claw this substance out of the earth… to really feel the clay, feel its interaction, let their fingers learn and understand its language.”
