Analog collages sourced from vintage magazines.
My approach to collage
My analog collage practice explores themes of dream states, women’s private lives, vulnerability, isolation, and outsider experiences. I exclusively use monochromatic imagery from vintage American magazines to assemble visually cohesive but narratively ambiguous compositions. Surreality and the uncanny are more meaningful methods than reality and fact for investigating what feels true to me.
Collage lets me manipulate and recontextualize found imagery through an intuitive process. I speak using a visual vocabulary of recurring images: the sky, women's bodies, dark interiors, and blurry scenery. Through careful destruction and removal of original context, familiar images appear in unfamiliar settings.
My work addresses our innermost conditions without dictating desired responses. The mystery endures, and in its endurance, may we greet what rises within us.
